  1. Personal Data We Collect

3.1 Data You Provide Directly

We collect personal data when you complete our registration or contact forms, enroll in a course, or communicate with us. This includes:

  • Full name, email address, phone number, and nationality
  • Preferred course type (group, private, corporate), schedule preferences, and current Arabic level
  • Results of placement assessments
  • Payment confirmation details (processed via Stripe; we do not store full card numbers)
  • The content of messages you send us by email, phone, or WhatsApp

3.2 Data Collected Automatically

When you visit our website, we may automatically collect technical data including:

  • IP address, browser type and version, operating system, and device type
  • Pages visited, time spent on pages, referring pages, and click paths
  • Tracking data via cookies and advertising pixels (see Section 7 below)

3.3 Data Received from Third Parties

Where MTC has a corporate or embassy agreement, the client organisation may provide us with employee or student details for enrollment purposes. We treat such data under the same standards as data collected directly.

3.4 Data About Minors

Where a parent or legal guardian registers a child under the age of 18 for our services, we collect only the minimum data necessary for enrollment and course delivery. This data is provided by the parent or guardian only — we do not collect personal data directly from minors. By submitting a registration for a minor, you confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian and that you have authority to provide their information to us.

We do not use a minor’s data for any purpose other than delivering the relevant educational service and communicating with the enrolling parent or guardian. Parents may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their child’s data at any time by contacting info@mothertongue.ae.

  1. How We Use Your Personal Data

We use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To assess your Arabic level and place you in the appropriate course
  • To enroll you, manage your account, and deliver the services you have requested
  • To communicate with you regarding your enrollment, scheduling, payments, and administrative updates
  • To process payments and issue invoices
  • To manage corporate and embassy client relationships
  • To improve our website, services, and curriculum
  • To send marketing communications, but only where you have given explicit consent or where applicable law otherwise permits
  • To monitor website performance and measure the effectiveness of our marketing (see Section 7)
  • To comply with legal, regulatory, and accounting obligations under UAE law

  1. Legal Basis for Processing

We rely on the following legal bases for processing your personal data:

  • Performance of a contract: to deliver the course or service you have enrolled in
  • Consent: for marketing communications, and for any processing of minor data where required by law. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing
  • Legitimate interests: to manage and improve our operations, respond to inquiries, and maintain enrollment records, where those interests are not overridden by your rights
  • Legal obligation: to comply with UAE law, including accounting and regulatory requirements

If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, the legal bases above correspond to those set out in Article 6 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests at any time.

  • Corporate or embassy clients — where you are enrolled as part of a company or embassy programme, we may share relevant enrollment and attendance information with the contracting organisation
  • Government or regulatory authorities — where required by applicable UAE law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of MTC, our staff, or our students

All third-party service providers who process data on our behalf are required to maintain appropriate data protection standards consistent with applicable law.

  1. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Our website uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to support website functionality and to measure the performance of our advertising. The following technologies are currently active on our website:

  • Essential cookies: required for the website to function correctly. No consent is required for these.
  • Google Analytics: used to understand how visitors interact with our website, including pages visited and time spent. This data is used in aggregated, anonymised form.

Important notice: We are currently implementing a cookie consent management tool. Until this is in place, we recommend that visitors who do not wish to be tracked by advertising pixels adjust their browser settings or use Meta’s and Google’s opt-out tools. We will update this section once the consent banner is live.

You can manage your cookie and tracking preferences through:

  • Your browser settings (to block or delete cookies)
  • Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

  1. International Data Transfers

Some of our service providers, including Stripe, Zoho, Zoom, Google, and Meta, may process or store personal data outside the UAE. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data and to comply with applicable law. For transfers involving EU or UK residents, we rely on standard contractual clauses approved by the relevant data protection authority.

  1. Data Retention

We retain personal data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy. The following specific retention periods apply:

  • Enrollment and course records: 5 years from the end of the last enrollment
  • Payment and invoice records: 7 years, in accordance with UAE accounting and tax law
  • Marketing consent records: 2 years from the date of last interaction
  • Minor data: retained only for the duration of the child’s enrollment and deleted within 6 months of the end of that enrollment
  • Website inquiry data (contact form submissions): 12 months from the date of submission if no enrollment follows

After the applicable retention period, data is securely deleted or anonymised in a way that no longer identifies you.

  1. Your Rights

Depending on your location and the applicable law, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deletion: request that we erase your data where processing is no longer necessary or lawful
  • Restriction: request that we limit how we use your data in certain circumstances
  • Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format (where applicable under GDPR)
  • Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests, including marketing
  • Withdrawal of consent: where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@mothertongue.ae. We may ask you to verify your identity before processing your request. We will respond within 30 days. We may decline a request where it is manifestly unfounded or excessive, or where we are required by law to retain the data.

If you are located in the EU or UK and are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

  1. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encrypted communications, access controls, and regular security reviews.

No method of transmission over the internet is entirely secure. While we take all reasonable steps to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
