The Rich Cultural Heritage of The Arabs

Arabic is spoken by over 300 million people all over the world in 22  different countries like in Asia, northern Africa and the Middle East. It is the 4rth most spoken language of the world and the 6th official language of the United Nations. Arabic is the official language of non-Arabic countries such as; Israel, Somalia, Chad, Sudan, Mauritania and Tanzania.

 

As you may know, Arab is the official language of the Quran and the Arabic language does influence the Islamic nations. Not all Arabic speaking people are Muslim and not all Muslim peoples are Arab.

 

The beauty of Arab nations is that they believe in interconnectedness. They value family and have a strong, deep connection with all their family members including their external members. Family is the central theme of social existence in their eyes and their loyalty to each other overrides their personal needs and desires.

 

As you gain more understanding and awareness towards the Arabic peoples, you will see how they have made significant contributions around the word due to their humanitarian and generous ways. Contributions in discoveries that has improved our civilization such as in medicine, architecture, art, mathematics, philosophy, religion and natural sciences.

 

It was the Arabs who developed and invented algebra in mathematics as well as advancing trigonometry. Things we use today. In medicine, Ibn Sina, an Arab scientist and philosopher in the Middle Ages, was the famous writer of medicine that has helped improve the health of man throughout the ages. The toothbrush, the guitar, marching bands, coffee, surgical innovations and hospitals are all great modern innovations that have been passed down by Arabs.

 

Popular architectures such as the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon in Iraq and the Lighthouse of Alexandria in Egypt are 3 of the 7 wonders of the world based in Arab countries.

 

By gaining more realization of the vibrant Arab culture and language, you may begin to understand that there has been a lot of misunderstanding between the Arab people, Islam and fundamental religious groups. Your skills in the language and culture will give you the ability to differentiate between the three as your understanding grows in many ways opening any closed off, media based perceptions.
